History of the city of Kaiserslautern

back to overview

Kaiserslautern’s eventful history is manifest in the very names the city has been given over the years: Kaiserslautern is the city of Kaiser Barbarossa, the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I. To the US troops stationed in the area, it is K-Town, while as an up-and-coming IT centre on the edge of the Palatinate Forest it is the “Silicon Woods.” Among football fans, Kaiserslautern is known as the city of the Roten Teufel, the Red Devils.
